Back on December 5, 1901 the genius that is Walt Disney was born.
Today we celebrate the life, accomplishments + joy Walt has brought to millions + millions of children (+ adults!).
So Happy Birthday Walt, and thank you!
Happy Anniversary to Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’, which was released 46 years ago on October 18, 1967.
The film follows Mowgli, the orphaned ‘man cub’, on his adventures with Baloo, King Louie, Shere Khan, Bagheera and Kaa (the python, who can forget that scene! ;)).
Jungle Book is the 19th animated feature film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. It was also the last Disney film to be produced by Walt Disney himself, who died during production.
“look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities, forget about your worries and your strife……”
Today, the Walt Disney company and Disney fans all around the world celebrate the 58th anniversary of Disneyland!
The Disneyland Resort opened on July 17, 1955 after 365 days of construction. Disneyland has welcomed 650 million guests since that opening day.
Some of the rides guests were welcomed with on that opening day included: Casey Jr. Circus Train, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, King Arthur Carousel, Mad Tea Party, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan Flight, & Snow White’s Adventure.
Happy Anniversary! 🙂
On this day in 1982, Walt Disney Pictures released TRON, starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner. The film depicts a computer programmer (Bridges) who is transported inside the software world of a mainframe computer where he interacts with different programs in his attempts to get back out. Sounds like a nightmare I had… 😉
The inspiration behind Tron started in 1976, when animator Steve Lisberger watched a sample reel from a computer film called MAGI and also saw, for the first time, the awesome video game PONG (those were the good ol’ days!!). He was immediately fascinated by video games and wanted to bring them to the big screen.
Tron was a box office success grossing $33 million in the US; pretty good considering it’s $17 million dollar budget.
To emphasize the impact Tron has had on future Disney films, John Lasseter, head of Disney Pixar animation has said “Without Tron, there would be no Toy Story.”
Now who could live in a world without Toy Story? Thank you Tron and Happy Birthday!! 😉
Enchanted Tiki Room
Today we celebrate 50 years of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room!
The attraction opened on June 23, 1963 and was the very first to use Audio-Animatronic technology! It was originally sponsored by United Airlines until 1976 when sponsorship passed over to Dole Food Company, which remains the sponsor to this day.
According to the book Disneyland Detective, the cast of birds is as follows:
-54 singing orchids
-4 totem poles
-12 tiki drummers
-24 singing masks
-7 birds of paradise (the plant variety)
-9 forktail birds
-20 assorted tropical birds
I have personally viewed the Enchanted Tiki Room on my first trip to Disney World back in 1995. However, I have not seen it on my last few trips due to my daughter being afraid of birds!! Maybe one day she’ll be able to enjoy the history and magnificence that is the Enchanted Tiki Room.
“In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room…….”
