Frozen Grosses $1 Billion at the Box Office

Frozen Cast

Disney’s Oscar Award winning animated feature film ‘Frozen’ has grossed more than $1 Billion at the box office in less than four months. This makes Frozen the 18th highest grossing film of all time.

Let’s say that again: OF.ALL.TIME.

And the second highest grossing animated film after Toy Story 3. Not that I’m surprised. I felt the movie was incredible, the scenery was beautiful and the characters left something for everyone to enjoy. Both my kids are still talking about the movie and singing the songs. Ok, I’ll admit it, so am I.

The good news: Disney is already in talks for a sequel and producing a Broadway show based on the film.

The bad news: Merchandise is hard to find at most stores (I am finding, at least). Have you checked e-bay lately? People are selling items for double, triple and even quadruple what they paid for them (not to mention what they’re really worth after the enormous ‘mark up’).

As Elsa would say…..”Let it go”…..

Star Wars Ep. VII Gets a Release Date!

Get those lightsabers ready! Cue the Cantina Band!

It’s official.

Disney has finally announced a release date for the much anticipated next installment in the Star Wars Franchise. Episode VII will be released on December 18, 2015.

That’s pretty much all we know at this point, other than J.J. Abrams being the director and co-writer. No other information on storyline, casting, etc. has been announced. Yet.

Let’s Celebrate Dumbo!

Dumbo, Disney’s fourth animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, was released 72 years ago on October 23, 1941. In addition to the adorable Dumbo (who’s real name was Jumbo Jr.), the film features Mrs. Jumbo, Timothy Q. Mouse, Jim Crow, and Casey Junior.

At the 1941 Oscars, Dumbo won ‘Best Scoring of a Musical Picture”. Not surprising…….how awesome is the song “Pink Elephants on Parade”? or “Baby Mine”?

At 64 minutes, Dumbo is one of Disney’s shortest feature films! It may be short, but it is certainly a classic.

Happy Birthday Dumbo!! 🙂

Happy Anniversary to The Jungle Book!

Jungle Book

Happy Anniversary to Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’, which was released 46 years ago on October 18, 1967.

The film follows Mowgli, the orphaned ‘man cub’, on his adventures with Baloo, King Louie, Shere Khan, Bagheera and Kaa (the python, who can forget that scene! ;)).

Jungle Book is the 19th animated feature film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. It was also the last Disney film to be produced by Walt Disney himself, who died during production.

“look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities, forget about your worries and your strife……”

AVATAR coming to Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is about to get a whole lot cooler….

Disney Parks Blog announced early this morning, that plans for AVATAR at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom are well under way!

At the first ever D23 Expo held in Japan, the first images for the new section of Animal Kingdom were revealed, and to say it’s going to be amazing is an understatement. Check out the photos!

According to the concept renderings, AVATAR will feature floating mountains, allow guests to soar through the sky riding a Banshee, and wander through the nighttime jungle of bioluminescent plants! Gorgeous!

There is no official date on when construction will start or when the project will be completed (right now Disney is estimating sometime in 2017), but I for one think this will be a great boost to an already awesome park in Disney World! Can’t wait!!! 🙂
