‘Tron’ Turns 31 Today!

On this day in 1982, Walt Disney Pictures released TRON, starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner. The film depicts a computer programmer (Bridges) who is transported inside the software world of a mainframe computer where he interacts with different programs in his attempts to get back out. Sounds like a nightmare I had… ๐Ÿ˜‰

The inspiration behind Tron started in 1976, when animator Steve Lisberger watched a sample reel from a computer film called MAGI and also saw, for the first time, the awesome video game PONG (those were the good ol’ days!!). He was immediately fascinated by video games and wanted to bring them to the big screen.

Tron was a box office success grossing $33 million in the US; pretty good considering it’s $17 million dollar budget.

To emphasize the impact Tron has had on future Disney films, John Lasseter, head of Disney Pixar animation has said “Without Tron, there would be no Toy Story.”

Now who could live in a world without Toy Story? Thank you Tron and Happy Birthday!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
